*1966. After completing studies at the Ringier School of Journalism, von Arx worked for 18 years as editor and freelancer for various German-language magazines. In 1991 she moved to New York and produced with Polo Hofer the road movie “Bluesiana.” In addition to regular contributions to Swiss television (10vor10, Rundschau, neXt) she realized two short documentary films for SF and Sat1. In 2001 she moved to London and begin filming for the documentary film “Building the Gherkin.” In 2002 she founded the production company ican films gmbh. In 2003 her first documentary film “abXang” was shown in cinemas. “Building the Gherkin” followed in 2005 (CH, DE, UK). In 2006/7 she produced the documentary film “Seven Dumpsters and a Corpse” for Thomas Haemmerli; shown in cinemas in 2007/8. Winner of the Zurich Film Award 2007, nominated for the Swiss Film Prize 2008. Her newest documentary “Seed Warriors” will have its theatrical release in Spring 2010.
*1980. Manuela Ruggeri studied Sociology, Ethnology and International Law at the University of Zurich. During her studies she assisted Director Fabio Calvi by producing the documentary "Soazza: Gente di Paese" for Swiss Italian Television (RTSI). Manuela shot and edited a symposium about "The Future of World Society" at the University of Zurich: her Video was released together with the book about the conference. After her studies in 2005 she worked at the Locarno Film Festival in the press department. During the same year she moved back to Zurich and took a Sales and Acquisition Assistant position at First Hand Films, an international distributor for documentaries and independent fiction. Since January 2009 she has been at ican films as Production Assistant and Production Manager.
